They Say that Breaking Up is Hard to Do…

Do you know how to handle a bully? You don’t let them get away with it.  During the holiday season, my favorite example is ol’ Ralphie socking the bully in the Christmas Story.

It looks like the fight within the family is coming to a head, and who would have thought that crying man Boehner would ever grow some juevos?

On the national stage – the old line Republican Guard (no… not THAT Republican Guard) seems to have finally gotten the message that for some of these Tea Party groups you just can’t ever please them.   It’s like dating someone that can never have enough.

Reports are flying around over the last few days about McConnell, Boehner and even Tea Party darling Paul Ryan “caving” on a deal to avoid a government shutdown.  This is, of course, is disappointing the Tea Party faction of the wing.   These legislators didn’t blink, and went ahead and worked out a deal and passed legislation… what a novel concept.

Boehner, and his new found pair of gonads, looks like a new man:

“Frankly, I think they’re misleading their followers, I think they’re pushing our members in places where they don’t want to be, and frankly, I just think that they’ve lost all credibility,” Boehner said during his weekly news conference on Capitol Hill.”

But what is REALLY happening here?   Methinks it’s more about what it’s always about: money.

Take a closer look at who is funding the actions against these “establishment” members.  FreedomWorks, Senate Conservatives Fund and Heritage Action PAC were some of the driving forces behind the attempts to torpedo Ryan’s budget deal.   These groups are spending megabucks on the national stage in their attempts to gain control of the GOP.

In Texas, we’ve had the same type of thing brewing.  Our friends over at Empower Texans have drawn a line in the sand, and are gearing up to fight with their self-proclaimed ideologue at the helm, against any conservatives who go against exactly what they want—and that means do whatever they say last, because they tend to change their minds quite a bit about what they believe.

Empower Texans and Agendawise already receive shady corporate donations and get major funding from some other questionable sources to try to affect state and local elections in Texas.  I’ve been hearing that these national groups could be looking at funneling money into Texas to help ideologue groups like Empower Texans to help with their suicide mission.   I wonder if that gets Karl Rove’s Crossroads PAC engaged to play in Texas state races?

In Texas, we usually say we don’t like “Washington brand politics”.   I just hope the sane conservatives in Texas remember that—and ol’ Ralphie—the next time they are challenged by these fringe organizations trying to bully them.
